Maricopa Corporate College announces new MCOR-IT Institute following GPEC report

In response to the growing demand for trained IT professionals in Arizona, Maricopa Corporate College (MCOR) has launched the MCOR-IT Institute to provide individuals with the skills necessary to secure a position in the fast-growing technology industry.

The institute was launched after a recent report from the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, “An In-Depth Analysis of the Software Industry,” which analyzed the Information Communication Technology sector, with an emphasis on the software industry.

The report found that the industry is growing rapidly and there will be a need for more software programmers to fuel this growth. The survey also revealed the need for the region to build up multiple, strong, diverse and industry-validated workforce training and education programs to support future growth in the software industry.

Maricopa Corporate College’s new institute aims to meet this need through its in-person technology boot camps and individual online programs intended to prepare both new and experienced IT professionals for the current demands of the field.

The curriculum for MCOR-IT’s programs was developed in conjunction with local employers in order to ensure the skills being taught in the courses match those needed for their open positions—a unique approach that sets MCOR-IT apart from other technology training options.

“Job readiness and job placement are major priorities of ours, that’s why we work directly with employers to assess talent development needs,” Dr. Eugene Giovannini, Maricopa Corporate College president, said. “Our programs are specifically designed to provide students with the skills needed to fill the positions that are open today.”

The IT Boot Camps offer students everything they need to become IT professionals including technical skills and business skills such as communication, effective business writing and business fundamentals. Students who successfully complete one of the boot camps will also be guaranteed a local job interview for an actual open position.

The institute is currently enrolling for the 12-week Web Developer Boot Camp, which begins in February 2015. MCOR-IT will also offer Software (ETL) Developer and Systems Analyst Boot Camps. Dates for these programs are to be announced.

In addition to the in-person boot camps, MCOR-IT offers 16 comprehensive online programs such as Android Application Developer, Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) Training and CompTIA™ Security+ Certification Training. All of these programs as well as the three boot camps are WIOA funding approved.

Hundreds of online technology courses are also available to those looking to gain a specific skill to advance their career. Many of these courses focus on specific programs such as Microsoft Excel or Adobe Photoshop, allowing students to choose the programs that are most applicable to them.
