Maricopa County to Offer No-Cost Professional Skills Credential to All Residents

Maricopa County residents looking for work, or just hoping to boost their skills, now have a new, free tool at their disposal. The Workforce Professional Skills course is a no-cost, self-paced online class offered through the Workforce 2 You program, which is designed to strengthen workforce development and economic opportunities in Maricopa County. 

“Maricopa County is proud to invest in programs that strengthen our workforce and open doors for hardworking residents,” said Thomas Galvin, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 2. “When we equip people with the skills employers need, we’re not just empowering individuals—we’re making Maricopa County a competitive, attractive place for businesses to thrive. This no-cost program gives residents the skills to compete and succeed in a fast-changing job market, and it helps ensure Maricopa County remains a destination for opportunity and growth.” 

The Workforce Professional Skills microcredential is provided through Maricopa Community Colleges and is available to all Maricopa County residents. To participate, individuals must first register online with the 10-college system as a non-credit student. 

The course consists of five key modules: 

  • Communication and Empathy
  • Professionalism and Collaboration
  • Initiative
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
  • Self-Directed Learning and Resilience 

“This partnership allows us to continue doing what we do best — expanding access to educational opportunities for learners across Maricopa County,” said Dr. Steven R. Gonzales, Maricopa Community Colleges Chancellor. “As a regional leader in workforce development, our colleges offer the training and resources students need to thrive in today’s competitive job market.”  

These modules are designed to prepare participants for future employment and help enhance their skills and ability to succeed in today’s competitive job market. Students who complete the course and pass the final exam with a score of 80% or higher will earn the Workforce Professional Skills Badge. This verified digital credential indicates that the student has demonstrated proficiency in professional skills that employers consistently rank as top hiring criteria, making the badge an invaluable addition to any resume or LinkedIn profile.
