3 Steps To Start A Wellbeing Engagement Program
Discover how preventative health in the workplace engages employees and improves productivity.

Prioritizing wellbeing requires a holistic focus, from home to the workplace. Organizations who provide wellbeing engagement programs often see an improvement in productivity in employees thanks to the physical and mental benefits of focusing on healthy behaviors. Have you considered integrating health into your workplace? With the abundance of resources available, now is the time to start the conversation!

In January, we hosted our Impact Breakfast Improving Productivity Through Wellbeing Engagement led by Drew Saenz, a corporate fitness specialist. Drew began the session by defining wellbeing as “whole human health.”  It represents multiple dimensions of wellness including mental, physical, financial, and career health. He went on to share how formally integrating these dimensions of wellness into the workplace provides an opportunity for employees, and in turn the organization, to grow and thrive.

3 Steps to Start a Wellbeing Engagement Program

Curious about how to start a wellbeing engagement program in your organization? Here are three basic steps!

STEP 1: DEVELOP A MISSION AND OBJECTIVES FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION’S WELLBEING ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM.

Start by having the conversation with your leadership team to ask for advice and vision. In your discussions, be prepared to provide quantitative and qualitative data that supports the need for the program. This may include current and potential employee productivity data, healthcare or retention cost savings opportunities, or information to show this program will support the larger business goals.

Ultimately, your conversations should reveal an opportunity which you will want to define as a mission and objectives. This provides a solid foundation for your organization’s wellbeing engagement program.

STEP 2: CONDUCT A WELLBEING SURVEY TO IDENTIFY EMPLOYEES’ WANTS AND NEEDS.

How you structure your wellbeing engagement program will be dependent on leadership’s vision and, of equal importance, the wants and needs of your employees. Conduct a survey to find out where your employees are looking for wellbeing support as well as the incentives that will drive them to participate and engage. When you are planning your program, be sure to incorporate the results of your survey into your strategy as this will show respect for your employees and will help you to acquire their trust and participation.

STEP 3: PLAN AND EXECUTE

When planning your wellbeing engagement program, don’t forget to include the following elements:

1. A simple enrollment process! Make it easy for your employees to get started.

2. A program introduction to help employees become familiar with the details and increase their excitement to participate.

3. An opportunity to capture baseline measurements for participating employees. This may include biometric screening, a current health survey, or goal setting exercises.

4. Rewards and prizes for employees! Allocate funds specifically for incentives, outline target measurements for attaining a reward, and encourage employees by creatively tracking their journey to better health.
